Syneren Technologies is looking for a Subject Matter Expert in Engineering Design and Drawing Checking to support our National Weather Service Customer. Eligible candidates will have experience in providing product engineering support for mechanical, ground-based communications systems and sensors. Occasional travel required. Primary work location is Silver Spring, MD with occasional travel to the Sterling Field Support Center Sterling, VA. Required Qualifications  Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline  10 – 15 years of experience in Engineering roles using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Inventor  Functional knowledge of product design, including documentation engineering and manufacturing procedures  Experienced in applying ASME Y14.5  Demonstrated proficiency in 3D CAD modeling  Knowledgeable in mechanical hardware commodities  Proficiency in checking ASME Y14.100 Engineering Drawings as well as MIL-STD-31000 Technical Data Packages  Ability to solve complex technical design/development problems  Proficient in Microsoft Office  Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance Duties and Responsibilities:  Interact with a multidisciplinary team, including representatives from drafting, mechanical/electrical engineering, and logistics  Work as a member of Engineering Design Support Configuration Management teams throughout the design/checking process, ensuring mechanical assemblies are optimized for cost and manufacturing  Perform reviews of mechanical designs to ensure Level III documentation goals are met within technical, cost, and schedule requirements  Provide technical support to internal and external facilities to support the transition of designs to manufacturing  Assist in the resolution of design issues identified during production  Perform trade studies of alternative approaches and make recommendations to the design team.  Support mechanical commodities within Components Engineering Discipline, and Inventor Library management system  Examine AutoCAD Inventor 3D models for accuracy, completeness, and sound configurations structures.  Examine engineering drawings and documentation for accuracy, completeness, and sound design to prescribed standards and contractual requirements  Interpret applicable drawing standard requirements and assess the quality of the technical backup data.  Investigate errors, recommend solutions, and collaborate with drafters, designers and engineers  Design and conduct documentation verification of mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies, sheet metal, circuit cards and wiring harness designs for correctness and completeness  Read and interpret engineering drawings and visualize items in a three-dimensional space  Perform detailed tolerance studies and dimensional fits and clearances on assemblies; provide related material requirements and weld notes  Consider pertinent design factors, such as thermal, human factors, manufacturability, supportability, interchangeability, strength-weight efficiency, and cost  Suggest design changes during checking to achieve greater simplicity, functionalism, and cost savings  Interpret and apply relevant design policies and procedures  Check new and revised drawings, models, and change notices to assure compliance with current standards.
